As 2022 comes to a close, I can tell you with certainty that it was yet another challenging year.\u00a0 A year that started with more pandemic restrictions lasting till the spring and thus affecting training and courses. Our success is greatly due to the fast-thinking ability and the leadership of our Officers and our Senior Non-Commissioned Officers\u2019. They made it work because that is what Grenadiers do \u2026<\/p>\n
The summer also presented its own challenges with the cancelation of Public Duties (Ceremonial Guard) for a third consecutive summer. The Summer Training results were also a disappointment due to the low number of graduates, a problem that all Reserve Units faced. As we looked to rebound in the fall, the news of the passing of our Colonel-in-Chief, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II hit home. The Regiment was authorized to send a delegation of 5 members, which was composed of a selected member representing each Mess as well as the Sergeant-Major and myself. All five agreed that it was an honor and a privilege to be part of such a historical event.<\/p>\n
The Active Battalion did finish this last quarter of the year in strength increasing our training attendance and our leadership in both the Officers and Sergeants Mess.<\/p>\n
As we look forward to 2023 the challenges do not diminish with Reconstitution of the Canadian Armed Forces, a tightened budget that will reduce our winter\/spring training and the war in Ukraine which still brings both uncertainty as well as an opportunity for the Reserves to assist with Canada\u2019s military commitments. Despite the uncertain we remain positive and focused for 2023.<\/p>\n
On behalf of all serving members, the Sergeant-Major and myself, we would like to wish you all a safe and prosperous New Year, may you all enjoy Health and Happiness throughout the year before us all in 2023.<\/p>\n

Alors que 2022 touche \u00e0 sa fin, je peux vous dire avec certitude que ce fut encore une autre ann\u00e9e difficile. Une ann\u00e9e qui a commenc\u00e9 avec davantage de restrictions pand\u00e9miques qui ont dur\u00e9 jusqu’au printemps et ont donc affect\u00e9 la formation et les cours. Notre succ\u00e8s est en grande partie d\u00fb \u00e0 la capacit\u00e9 de r\u00e9flexion rapide et au leadership de nos officiers et de nos sous-officiers sup\u00e9rieurs. Ils l’ont fait fonctionner parce que c’est ce que font les Grenadiers\u2026<\/p>\n
L’\u00e9t\u00e9 a \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ses propres d\u00e9fis avec l’annulation des fonctions publiques (garde de c\u00e9r\u00e9monie) pour un troisi\u00e8me \u00e9t\u00e9 cons\u00e9cutif. Les r\u00e9sultats de l’entra\u00eenement d’\u00e9t\u00e9 ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cevants en raison du faible nombre de dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s, un probl\u00e8me auquel toutes les unit\u00e9s de r\u00e9serve \u00e9taient confront\u00e9es. Alors que nous cherchions \u00e0 rebondir \u00e0 l’automne, la nouvelle du d\u00e9c\u00e8s de notre colonel en chef, Sa Majest\u00e9 la reine Elizabeth II, nous a frapp\u00e9s. Le r\u00e9giment \u00e9tait autoris\u00e9 \u00e0 envoyer une d\u00e9l\u00e9gation de 5 membres, qui \u00e9tait compos\u00e9e d’un membre choisi repr\u00e9sentant chaque mess ainsi que le sergent-major et moi-m\u00eame. Tous les cinq ont convenu que c’\u00e9tait un honneur et un privil\u00e8ge de faire partie d’un tel \u00e9v\u00e9nement historique.<\/p>\n
Le bataillon actif a termin\u00e9 ce dernier trimestre de l’ann\u00e9e en force, augmentant notre participation \u00e0 l’entra\u00eenement et notre leadership dans le mess des officiers et des sergents.<\/p>\n
Alors que nous attendons avec impatience 2023, les d\u00e9fis ne diminuent pas avec la reconstitution des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes, un budget resserr\u00e9 qui r\u00e9duira notre entra\u00eenement hivernal et printanier et la guerre en Ukraine qui apporte encore \u00e0 la fois de l’incertitude et une opportunit\u00e9 pour la R\u00e9serve d’aider avec les engagements militaires du Canada. Malgr\u00e9 l’incertitude, nous restons positifs et concentr\u00e9s pour 2023.<\/p>\n
Au nom de tous les membres en service, le sergent-major et moi-m\u00eame, nous vous souhaitons \u00e0 tous une nouvelle ann\u00e9e s\u00fbre et prosp\u00e8re, puissiez-vous tous profiter de la sant\u00e9 et du bonheur tout au long de l’ann\u00e9e devant nous tous en 2023.<\/p>\n
